The Story

When Dan began exploring options to add AC to his home, he was looking for a financing solution that was simple and affordable. As a longtime employee of Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA), Dan became one of the first to pilot the Electrify and Save On-Bill Repayment (OBR) program before it was made available to the broader co-op member community.

Through Electrify and Save, Dan connected with I.C.E. Heating & Cooling. They are a Colorado Springs-based contractor with over 50 years of combined HVAC experience and top industry certifications. The project scope included the installation of a Daikin One system, which can be configured as a “duel-fuel” setup, which pairs a high-efficiency air source heat pump with a gas furnace—a major upgrade for a home that had never had AC.

“The contractor we went with was great,” Dan shared. “Josh handled just about everything when it came to the paperwork. He knew what was happening at every stage of the process and communicated what to expect next.”

The program’s built-in repayment through his monthly utility bill, combined with competitive interest rates, made it an ideal fit for a substantial energy upgrade. On-bill repayment is a seamless process that allows homeowners to finance energy improvements and repay the cost over time directly through their utility bill, eliminating debt burden and the need for separate loan payments.

“On-bill was the right fit for me because of the convenience and simplicity of the process.” Dan shared.

Since the installation, Dan has noticed a significant improvement in his home’s comfort, particularly during Colorado’s increasingly warm summers. The new system has made it easier to maintain consistent indoor temperatures, creating a more comfortable environment year-round.

For Dan, the simplicity of the approval process was a major benefit. Unlike traditional financing, eligibility for On-Bill Repayment is based on utility bill payment history; specifically, no shutoff notices in the past 12 consecutive months and no late payment penalties in the last six consecutive months. Dan also qualified for rebates through Tri-State, which helped lower the overall project cost. The ease of on-bill repayment made the experience one he described as smooth, accessible, and well worth it.

“I’d definitely recommend it to other homeowners looking to make similar upgrades,” Dan said.
