The Story
When Christina came across a Facebook ad for the Electrify and Save On-Bill Repayment (OBR) Program, she was intrigued right away. Living in a 100-year-old home, Christina had long dealt with the quirks of an older house such as inconsistent temperatures, drafty rooms, and above-average utility costs. She had been considering home energy upgrades for some time, but was concerned about the time and financial commitment of making significant improvements. That’s where the Electrify and Save program caught her attention.
With no upfront costs and interest rates below 5%, Electrify and Save On-Bill Repayment makes home energy upgrades more accessible for homeowners across Colorado. Unlike traditional loan financing, approval is based on utility bill payment history rather than credit score and history, requiring no shutoff notices in the previous 12 consecutive months and no late payment penalties within the last 6 months. Repayments are made directly through the homeowner's monthly utility bill, making the process simple and reducing financial barriers.
Through Electrify and Save, Christina connected with Sunrise Insulation of Alamosa, a CCEF-authorized contractor specializing in home energy efficiency upgrades. The contractor installed insulation in her attic and a dual system air source heat pump that now heats and cools her home, providing consistent comfort year-round. For Christina, the competitive interest rates paired with the streamlined approval process made choosing Electrify and Save the right decision.
“On-Bill repayment was appealing because it allowed me to make necessary energy-efficient upgrades, without the hassle of dealing with a more traditional loan process.” Christina said.
Christina’s home had a history of inconsistent temperatures, but one room in particular stood out. With the help of her contractor, they learned that the room had no insulation at all. Before the energy upgrade, Christina relied on an old-fashioned electric thermal storage (ETS) heater in her guest home and a wood stove in her main house. While these systems provided heat, they were inefficient, costly, and labor-intensive. The wood stove required frequent fueling, and the ETS heater struggled to maintain consistent warmth.
Once the issue was identified, it became clear why she was losing so much heat through the winter months. The lack of insulation was not only increasing her utility bill, but also making her living environment less comfortable year-round. Her contractor was then able to develop a plan to address the issue and carried out the upgrades seamlessly.
The results have been significant. Christina has reduced the amount of wood she burns in the winter, lowering both her workload and environmental impact. She has also noticed a decrease in her utility bill. For her, the upgrades have provided both practical and financial relief. With a more comfortable home, lower utility costs, and a streamlined financing experience, Christina felt confident in her decision to participate in the Electrify and Save On-Bill Repayment Program.
“I was really happy with how the project was handled from start to finish. I would absolutely recommend On-Bill to anyone trying to save money and avoid the headache of managing this kind of upgrade themselves.” Christina shared.
